Getting Started Guide
Welcome to Midigame! This guide covers the essential steps and settings to get the perfect visuals.
1. First Time Launch
The first time you start the application, it may take 10-15 seconds to load. Subsequent launches are faster, but can still take up to 8 seconds. This is normal.
2. Windows Protected Your PC
When you first run the app, you will likely see a blue Windows Defender SmartScreen warning. This is expected because the application is new. To proceed, simply click More info, then Run anyway. You will only need to do this once.
3. How Songs Work
The app plays MIDI files located in the songs/ folder, which is in the same directory as your application executable. The download includes a few songs for you to test with right away.
You can download MIDI files from the internet, but be warned: many of them are low quality. For the best results, you may need to clean them up. I recommend using Signal, a free online MIDI editor, to fix or edit your files.
4. Sync is Everything (One-Time Setup)
To get perfect synchronization, you need to calibrate the app to your specific device one time. Go to Settings → Audio & Physics and find the Audio Pre-start setting.
- If the square teleports to the first note at the very start, the value is too high. Lower it.
- If the music starts and the square is delayed, the value is too low. Increase it.
Adjust this value until the square hits the first note exactly when the music starts. You only have to do this once.
5. Fine-Tuning Your Map (Performance & Style)
This is not a miracle app; performance depends on the complexity of the MIDI file. These settings in the 'Audio & Physics' tab are crucial for both performance and the visual style of your video.
- Square Speed: This controls how fast the square moves. Increasing the speed makes the distance between notes greater, which can make dense maps easier to load and process.
- Bounce Spacing: This sets the minimum time (in milliseconds) allowed between bounces. It prevents the square from having a seizure on very fast notes.
- Stack Threshold: This is the key to creating insane videos. It decides the time threshold at which notes are allowed to stack vertically. Higher values create more stacks, allowing you to build crazy "spam" sections that look amazing on video.
6. Advanced Features
Intro Setting (Work in Progress): In the 'Intro' tab, you can select a MIDI file to use as your channel's intro. This saves you from having to manually add it to every single video you make.
7. Recording Your Video
The app is designed to be recorded. You will need screen recording software to capture the output. I recommend using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software), which is free and powerful. Set it to record the application window and you're good to go.
Bonus: Social Media Growth Tips
This app is a powerful tool for growing a channel from scratch. You can create both long-form videos for platforms like YouTube or short-form, vertical videos for TikTok, Shorts, and Reels (you will need to rotate the video after recording).
Channel Setup: Avoid Getting Flagged
When you create a new channel, do not start posting immediately. To avoid being flagged as a bot, "warm up" the account for about a week. Act like a normal user: watch videos, subscribe to other channels, and leave comments.
Content Strategy
- Be Consistent: Aim to post two videos every single day. Consistency is key.
- Improve Your Content: Always be creating better and better songs. Pay attention to what music is currently trending and what works well in this niche.
- Stay Patient: Keep posting consistently, and you will see results.
